MISSION STATEMENT: Dedicated, highly trained volunteers who are committed to working in partnership with the community and other public safety agencies to provide professional fire suppression and other emergency services within the communities of Holiday Beach, Lamar, and North Aransas County Texas.
WHAT KIND OF POSITIONS DO YOU HAVE IN THE FIRE DEPARTMENT: We have a job for everybody who is willing to serve. Firefighters perform structural, wildland and other fire suppression duties, rescue operations, and assist EMS providers on potentially life- threatening emergency medical calls. Fire Support members aid firefighters on calls for service and other operations. Duties may include operation of vehicles and equipment, rehab services for firefighters and other emergency personnel, water supply operations, and equipment inspection and maintenance. Community Support members assist the fire department with fundraising, community events to include our annual Lamardi Gras and Market Days, and other public relations activities. Junior Firefighters, 14-18 years of age, with parental consent, attend fire department training to prepare them to be volunteer firefighters when they turn 18.
IS TRAINING AND EQUIPMENT PROVIDED? All training, uniforms, and equipment is provided by the department at no cost to you. We conduct in-house training on the second, third and fifth Thursday of each month. Additional training is conducted through the Texas A&M Forest Service, National Fire Academy, and other providers. All travel expenses are funded by our department for out-of-area training. We also provide workers compensation coverage and supplemental life, disability and significant illness insurance (on and off duty).
WHEN ARE YOUR MEETINGS? Every Thursday night at 7PM at our main station, 302 Bois D’ Arc in Lamar. Business meetings are normally conducted on the first Thursday of the month. Equipment checks are done on the fourth Thursday of the month. Training is conducted on the second, third and fifth Thursdays. Anyone is welcome to attend.
HOW DO YOU RESPOND TO CALLS? Firefighters and Fire Support members are notified of calls for service by the Aransas County Public Safety Center via radio and a cell phone paging system. Available personnel who are in the Lamar / Holiday Beach area respond to the station to dress out in the appropriate safety gear and to staff fire apparatus.
WHAT TYPES OF CALLS DO YOU RESPOND TO? Structure fires, grass / brush fires, vehicle fires, other types of fires, vehicle collisions, watercraft accidents, life threatening emergency medical calls (Allegiance EMS is the primary responder to emergency medical calls. We do not respond to all EMS calls), assistance to EMS when requested, assistance to other public safety agencies when requested. All three fire departments in Aransas County (Lamar, Fulton and Rockport) are volunteer departments. All three departments respond on an automatic aid basis to any structure fires in Aransas County. We also provide mutual aid assistance on major incidents, when requested, occurring in Aransas County, neighboring counties of San Patricio, Refugio and Calhoun, or any other jurisdiction asking for our assistance.
HOW DO I JOIN YOUR TEAM? Attend three consecutive meetings. You will be required to complete an application and undergo a background check on the second meeting. Members will then hold a vote on the next scheduled business meeting. HOPE TO SEE YOU ON THURSDAY NIGHT.
